Help for the Rafter Family

How can you help…

Meals — Visit LotsaHelpingHands for a calendar and to sign up for a day to bring a gluten-free meal.

Gift Cards — Use the BRBB’s Scrip program to provide LandisHennings‘, Giant, and Wawa gift cards or send in a cash donation and the BRBB will use it to buy gift cards.

You may have heard of the health concerns of one of our alumni parents, Mike Rafter, who suffered from a ruptured AVM on November 9th, 2016. Mike gave countless hours to serving the BRBB during the four years that his son Brandon was a band member. Although Brandon graduated in June 2016, Mike and all of the Rafters remain part of our family.

At times like this, many of us wonder what we can do to help. The family has requested gift cards to local grocery stores to assist with the day-to-day care of Mike and Jenn’s six children. The BRBB exercises the benefit of our Scrip program to provide our local grocery store gift cards—Landis, Henning’s, and Giant—to the family during this challenging time. Wawa gift cards are also available, which are so helpful for filling the gas tank.

If you would like to help the Rafters, here are three things you can do:

    1. If you are a current Scrip family, order gift cards as usual; then send a message to scrip@soudertonbigred.org to let Sam Esquirell know they are for the Rafter family.
    2. If you are not participating in Scrip, you can still donate! Make a check payable to “BRBB”, mark the envelope “Rafter family gift cards”, and put it in the Red Box. If you have a preference as to which gift cards are purchased, write that on the envelope.
    3. Sign up at LotsaHelpingHands to provide a meal. (The LotsaHelpingHands meal signups are managed by Rafter family and friends. Visit that site for more information.)

Find out how to sign up for our Scrip program.

No matter which option you choose, we will ensure that the gift cards are ordered and delivered to the family.

This opportunity will continue to be available for the next several months as this is expected to be a very long road for the Rafter family. So please feel free to contribute whenever it is possible for you to do so.

Of course, well wishes and positive thoughts go a long way, and it is our hope that the BRBB can be a source of strength and encouragement to them during this difficult time, as Mike always was for the BRBB.
